GCC, EU reaffirm Support for Syria's unity and stability

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reaffirmed its full support for all steps to enhance Syria’s security, stability and territorial integrity.

Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi said during the launch of the joint ministerial meeting with the European Union in Kuwait ‘’ The Council expresses its support for all steps that enhance the security, stability and territorial integrity of Syria, and condemns the ongoing Israeli attacks on its territory and foreign interference in its affairs,” as Kuwait News Agency said.

Al-Budaiwi stressed that ‘’the security and stability of Syria constitute two basic pillars of the security and stability of the region, adding that the Council supports measures and procedures aimed at combating terrorism and acts of violence aimed at destabilizing it.

In turn, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, noted “encouraging developments in Syria”, stressing that international political and financial support for Syria will be essential to ensure that all Syrians benefit from reconstruction efforts.

The European official stressed that the world is currently witnessing an escalation in conflicts and human suffering, and in this situation, work must be done to ensure respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and international solidarity to confront current challenges that affect global security and stability.

The 29th joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union began today in the Kuwaiti capital, with the participation of foreign ministers and senior officials from both sides.
