Baghdad, May 25 (SANA) Syria and Iraq signed a technical minutes in Baghdad to enhance cooperation in managing shared water resources, particularly concerning the Euphrates River.
The signing ceremony came at the conclusion of a bilateral technical meeting attended by specialized delegations from both sides, headed by Osama Khaled Abu Zaid, Syria’s Deputy Minister of Energy for Water and Electricity Affairs, and Hussein Abdul Ameer Baka, the Technical Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources.
The discussions focused on strengthening technical coordination and exchanging data and information related to shared water resources in a way that supports sustainable water management and serves the mutual interests of both countries.
The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining direct technical dialogue, enhancing communication channels between experts, exchanging expertise, and developing follow up and coordination mechanisms to ensure effective and institutionally grounded management of shared water resources.
The meeting followed discussions held yesterday between the Syrian delegation and Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Muthanna Al Tamimi, which addressed ways to enhance cooperation in water resource management and coordinate water releases in the Euphrates River, as part of ongoing efforts to develop bilateral mechanisms to confront growing water challenges in the region and serve the interests of both nations.
