Aleppo, June 11 (SANA) A convoy carrying nearly 1,700 families arrived in the Afrin region of northern Aleppo province on Wednesday from the northeastern city of Qamishli, as part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of displaced Syrians to their home areas.
The return operation was supervised by the Presidential Team and coordinated between the governorates of Aleppo and Hasakah, as well as the Afrin regional administration, according to local officials.
Mohammad Abdul Hanan, mukhtar of Afrin city, said the returning families were received by local authorities, community representatives, and residents of the area.
He explained that logistical arrangements were in place to accommodate the returnees, with families either staying temporarily with relatives or being provided with temporary housing until procedures for returning to their homes are completed.
“The convoy included approximately 1,700 families,” Abdul Hanan said, adding that efforts to facilitate the return of displaced people and provide suitable conditions for their resettlement remain ongoing.
Several returnees described the journey home as an emotional moment after years of displacement.
Abdul Rahman Mustafa, one of the returnees, said the years spent away from Afrin had been difficult and expressed happiness at being able to return. He encouraged other residents still living outside the area to come back, citing what he described as growing stability in the region.
Amina Sido, who returned to Afrin after nine years of displacement, said the hardest part of her absence had been separation from her children, grandchildren, and relatives. She described returning home as the fulfillment of a long-awaited wish.
Another resident, Haj Tarif, said the return of families was a source of joy for local communities and expressed hope that all displaced Syrians would eventually be able to return to their hometowns.
The latest convoy is part of broader government efforts to support the voluntary return of displaced people, facilitate their resettlement, and help restore normal life in areas affected by years of displacement.
