Deir Ezzor, May 29 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Defense has mobilized several units and relevant departments to assess emergency needs in Deir Ezzor province following a sharp rise in the Euphrates River‘s water level, the ministry’s Media and Communications Directorate told SANA on Thursday.
The directorate said the ministry was coordinating its response with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and would use all available resources to support local authorities and government agencies in the province.
According to the directorate, evacuation operations and the construction of protective earth barriers are currently underway in several towns and villages across Deir Ezzor.
The ministry added that military assets that can be used in emergency response operations continue to arrive in the province as authorities work to address the situation.
The measures come after water levels in the Euphrates River rose sharply in recent days, prompting concerns about flooding in low-lying areas of Deir Ezzor province. Local authorities have issued warnings to residents in vulnerable areas and stepped up emergency preparedness efforts amid fears that rising waters could threaten homes, farmland and infrastructure along the river.
