Damascus, May 26 (SANA) Syria’s Civil Defense has issued renewed alerts over a significant rise in Euphrates water levels, warning of further increases over the coming hours and days.
The agency said data from the Euphrates Dam Authority indicates water levels could rise by more than two meters above normal, as discharge rates have been increased to around 1,800 cubic meters per second, raising the risk of flooding in adjacent areas.
Authorities urged residents near the riverbanks to leave homes and commercial sites, particularly in low-lying zones, and to take maximum precautions to ensure safety.
The advisory also called for a full halt to river navigation, prohibition of swimming, and avoidance of crossing earthen bridges during high water conditions. Residents were further instructed to relocate livestock, vehicles and essential belongings to safer, elevated areas.
The Officials stressed the importance of relying on verified government sources and avoiding the spread of rumors as emergency teams continue monitoring the situation.
Water levels in the Euphrates have risen noticeably in recent days due to increased releases from upstream dams and higher inflows linked to seasonal rainfall across northern and eastern Syria.
