Election committee continues accepting candidate applications in Syria’s Raqqa

Damascus, March 10 (SANA) Syria’s Higher Committee for Elections said it is continuing to receive applications for candidates seeking membership in the electoral bodies for the Raqqa and Tabqa districts for a second consecutive day.

Nawar Najmeh, spokesperson for the Higher Committee for the Syrian People’s Assembly elections, said applications remain open for candidates representing the two districts. Raqqa district has three seats allocated in the People’s Assembly, while Tabqa has one seat, he said.

Najmeh added that members of the electoral bodies whose names appear on the final voter lists are eligible to run for membership in the People’s Assembly.

The election process in Raqqa province is proceeding in accordance with the provisions and executive instructions of the temporary electoral system, Najmeh said, adding that election campaigns will begin once the nomination period closes.

Voting is expected to take place next week, followed by a period for submitting appeals against the results, he said.
