Damascus, May 4 (SANA)     Deputy Minister of Transport Mohammad Omar Rahal announced on Monday the formation of specialized technical teams to leverage Saudi expertise in developing Syria‘s transport and infrastructure sectors.

The decision follows extensive meetings held by a Syrian Ministry of Transport delegation in Saudi Arabia last week. Rahal stated that these teams will study Saudi logistics systems and infrastructure models to support the implementation of joint projects and enhance the efficiency of regional transport networks.

The talks centered on facilitating the entry of Syrian trucks into Saudi territory and reviewing the “Logisti” platform—a comprehensive digital system managed by the Saudi General Transport Authority that regulates freight, passenger services, and delivery logistics. Rahal noted that adopting similar digital tracking and monitoring systems could significantly improve regulatory oversight in Syria.

In the field of road infrastructure, the Syrian delegation inspected research centers focused on modern asphalt technologies, including rubberized and colored asphalt mixtures, as well as road simulation and load-testing equipment.

Rahal confirmed an agreement to form a technical team from the General Establishment for Road Communications to apply these advanced techniques to Syrian road networks, utilizing digital platforms for systematic maintenance and assessment.

Regarding the railway sector, the meetings addressed the foundations for establishing a rail link between Syria and Saudi Arabia as part of a regional axis extending through Jordan and Türkiye. The two sides discussed the current state of the Syrian railway network and the challenges posed by missing links in vital areas, agreeing to enhance the exchange of information and technical expertise to support future joint ventures.

The visit, headed by Rahal, marks a significant step in coordinating technical and regulatory frameworks between the two countries to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods and elevate the overall capacity of the bilateral transport system.
