Damascus, April 21 (SANA) Interior Minister Anas Khattab on Tuesday discussed with Chargé d’Affaires of the EU Mission to Syria Michael Ohnmacht ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination on priority security issues.
The meeting, held at the Interior Ministry in Damascus, focused on efforts to support Syria’s security sector reform, including developing civil security systems, improving police training and strengthening border management during the transitional phase.
The talks also addressed efforts to reinforce stability and the rule of law in line with international standards, as part of broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships.
The European Commission said on Monday it had submitted a proposal to the European Council to fully reactivate the EU-Syria Cooperation Agreement.
In a statement, the Commission said relations between the European Union and Syria have entered a new phase, noting that the proposal concerns reactivating the 1978 agreement, which was suspended in 2011.
