Damascus, April 20 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Emergencies and Disaster Management has activated a unified national alert system to strengthen early warning capabilities and improve preparedness for disasters.
The system, based on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), is designed to standardize warning messages across the country and ensure faster delivery through multiple channels, including media platforms, telecommunications networks and digital applications.
Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh said Sunday that the platform would help ensure accurate information reaches targeted groups in a timely manner and support decision-making in operations rooms.
He added that alerts will be issued in coordination with relevant national bodies, with each authority responsible for warnings within its technical mandate under a unified national framework.
The coordination involves institutions including the National Center for Meteorology and the National Earthquake Center, as well as the ministries of agriculture, water resources and health.
This step is part of broader efforts to build a multi-hazard early warning system aimed at protecting lives and property, reducing disaster impact and strengthening national response and recovery capacity.
