Amman, April 12 (SANA) The Syrian-Jordanian Higher Coordination Council ministerial meeting began in Amman on Sunday, with delegations from both countries taking part as they seek to expand bilateral cooperation.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani arrived earlier in the day to participate in the second session of the council, leading a ministerial delegation. He was received by Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and held talks ahead of the meeting.
The second session follows the inaugural meeting held in Damascus last May and comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties and broaden cooperation across multiple sectors.
Officials are expected to sign nine documents, including agreements and memoranda of understanding covering key areas such as media, justice, higher education, health, tourism, postal services and social development, as well as cooperation in corporate and endowment sectors.
The two sides are also expected to agree on a new import mechanism based on reciprocity, set to take effect from April 10, 2026, alongside plans to establish a joint investment committee and develop the Nasib/Jaber border crossing to operate around the clock.
Talks will further focus on enhancing cooperation in energy and transport, including electricity interconnection, gas agreements and the reactivation of the railway line, as well as cooperation in the water sector through the development of the Yarmouk basin.
