Damascus, April 12 (SANA) Christians observing the Eastern calendar marked Easter on Sunday with prayers and Masses held in churches across Damascus and other Syrian provinces.
At the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George in Damascus, Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II led the Easter Mass, assisted by bishops, priests and the St. Ephrem Patriarchal Choir.
In his address, Aphrem II described Easter as a call for renewal and new life, extending greetings to Syrians of all backgrounds. He said the occasion reflects a long-standing tradition of shared religious and national celebrations and offers an opportunity to pray for peace and unity in the country.
He stressed the importance of solidarity among Syrians, calling for efforts not only to rebuild infrastructure but also to strengthen social cohesion as a foundation for recovery.
A separate Easter Mass was also held at the Mariamite Cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus, led by Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, and attended by clergy and worshippers.
In Latakia, St. Michael’s Church held Easter Mass in a spiritual atmosphere, with large numbers of worshippers attending to mark the occasion with prayers and reflection. Participants expressed hopes that the occasion would bring peace, unity and stability to Syria, as attendees exchanged greetings, reflecting values of solidarity and a shared commitment to a future marked by peace and recovery.
