London, April 7 (SANA) The United Kingdom’s delegation to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with Syria to fully dismantle the chemical weapons program of the deposed regime.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the delegation stated: “Today marks eight years since the chemical attack carried out by the Assad regime using chlorine gas in the city of Douma. We express our respect for the victims and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring accountability, upholding international law, and supporting the vital work of the OPCW.”
The delegation added that the United Kingdom will continue to work with Syria to ensure the complete and verifiable destruction of the Assad regime’s chemical weapons program.
A report issued on January 27, 2023, by the OPCW’s Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) confirmed the direct responsibility of the deposed regime for carrying out the chemical attack using toxic chlorine gas on April 7, 2018. The attack killed 43 civilians, including 10 children and 15 women.
