Latakia, April 5 (SANA) A transit container routed overland from Jordan’s Aqaba port through Syrian territory arrived at Latakia port on Sunday, marking a step toward positioning the country as a regional trade corridor.
The General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Border Crossings said in a statement on its Telegram channel that the shipment marks the start of renewed transit operations through Syrian territory, aimed at strengthening its role as a logistics route linking regional ports and markets.
The authority said the move is part of efforts to streamline transit procedures and improve the flow of goods in line with modern operational standards.
Officials said the development highlights the readiness of Syrian ports to handle transit traffic and supports Syria’s position as a key trade route between Gulf countries and Europe.
Separately, Latakia port received the vessel “New Unity” on March 31, carrying about 20,000 tons of steel products, in what officials said reflected a recovery in port activity.
Authorities said port operations continue to be managed to ensure efficient handling and faster turnaround, supporting trade flows and economic activity.
