Damascus, Jan.20 (SANA) Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr discussed Tuesday with Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) Berik Aryn ways to enhance agricultural cooperation and bolster food security in Syria.
During the meeting, Minister Badr outlined the current state of the agricultural sector and the key challenges it faces, including war-affected infrastructure, the loss of skilled personnel, and recurring drought waves that have struck the country, leading to a decline in the production of several crops, most notably wheat, as well as a shortage of barley seeds.
Badr pointed to Syria’s orientation toward transitioning to modern irrigation systems, reviving livestock production stations, developing animal health laboratories, supporting seed production, and expanding the activities of the General Organization for Seed Multiplication.
For his part, Aryn affirmed that the organization is closely following the agricultural situation in Syria and expressed its readiness to provide support through an initiative aimed at revitalizing agriculture, as well as forming a joint working team to identify priorities and establish implementation mechanisms.
