Damascus, April 2 (SANA) The Ministries of Social Affairs and Labor and Education signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday to improve examination conditions for students with hearing impairments, promoting equal opportunities and a more inclusive education environment.
The MOU, signed by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Kabawat and Minister of Education Muhammad Abdul Rahman Turko, includes equipping specially prepared halls within exam centers that meet health and educational standards. It also provides for training exam supervisors, supplying sign language interpreters, and offering psychological and social support during exams.
Minister Kabawat said the initiative aligns with Syria’s national social protection policy, focusing on vulnerable groups. She described the creation of safe and supportive exam environments as an important step both educationally and socially.
Minister Turko said the measures mark a shift from coordination to implementation, ensuring students with hearing impairments can clearly understand questions and complete exams confidently on an equal footing with their peers.
The initiative reflects ongoing government efforts to integrate people with disabilities into the education system, in line with national policies and international commitments, by adapting exam centers, providing trained staff, and delivering comprehensive support to ensure equal educational opportunities.
