Damascus, March 29 (SANA) The National Commission for Missing Persons responded on Sunday to a report concerning a site in al-Shaddadi area in the countryside of Hasakah, near al-Kam al-Sini Prison, where exposed human remains were found. The remains are estimated to belong to nine individuals, some of the remains are mixed, as part of ongoing national and humanitarian efforts to uncover the fate of missing persons and preserve the rights of victims and their families.
In a statement, the Commission said that the necessary measures were taken to secure the site, in coordination with the relevant authorities and the Syrian Civil Defense teams, ensuring the protection of the remains and preventing any tampering. These measures were carried out while observing safety requirements and maintaining the chain of custody, with limited intervention conducted when necessary in line with approved technical procedures.
The Commission stressed that handling such sites is conducted within an organized and institutional national framework, warning that any unauthorized interference—whether in confirmed graves or suspected mass grave sites—constitutes a serious violation and exposes those responsible to legal accountability under applicable laws and regulations.
It also called on citizens to refrain from approaching or tampering with such locations and to promptly report any information or suspected cases, contributing to the protection of evidence and ensuring that documentation and investigation processes proceed in a professional and responsible manner.
