The International Labour Organization (ILO) is participating in the “Khan Al-Harir Motex” exhibition at the Damascus Fairgrounds through its project “Weaving Hope,” funded by the Italian Embassy.

The initiative aims to support the textile and clothing industry, enhance employment opportunities, and address challenges facing manufacturers, thereby contributing to the revival of this vital sector and supporting the national economy.

Hawraa Ajouz, spokesperson for the International Labour Organization – Damascus Office, told SANA that the organization continues to support the textile industry in Syria, considering it one of the most important sectors capable of absorbing large numbers of workers and creating new job opportunities.

She noted that this sector previously accounted for more than 40 percent of Syrian industries and served as a key driver of the national economy.

Ajouz explained that the ILO is working in cooperation with the Ministries of Social Affairs and Labour, Economy and Industry, chambers of industry, and the Federation of Trade Unions to implement the “Weaving Hope” project. The initiative seeks to revive the textile and clothing industry in Syria and address the challenges facing manufacturers through social dialogue and partnerships with various stakeholders.

She emphasized that the organization does not possess a “magic key” to solutions, but acts as a vital mediator to bring viewpoints closer and find joint solutions that contribute to developing the industrial sector and balancing the interests of workers and employers.
