Syria moves to enforce media licensing, suspends violating platforms
Information Ministry bans unlicensed media platforms in Syria - SANA

Damascus, Mar. 25 (SANA) The Syrian Ministry of Information has issued a circular banning the operation of the “Hashtag” website and the “Jusour News” and “Al-Daleel” platforms within Syrian territory for failing to obtain the required official licensing from the General Directorate of Press and Media Affairs.

The ministry stated in its circular on Wednesday that the measure is based on applicable laws and regulations following the fall of the ousted regime.

Legal Framework Governs Media Activity

The ministry affirmed that all media entities operating within Syria must comply with the legal framework regulating press and media work, ensuring that their activities align with national laws and institutional standards.

Warning Against Cooperation with Violating Platforms

The ministry stressed that any individual or entity engaging in activities or cooperating in any form with the banned platforms within Syria will be subject to legal prosecution, underscoring the state’s firm commitment to enforcing regulatory measures.

Call to Complete Licensing Procedures

The ministry called on all media institutions and platforms to complete the necessary licensing procedures in accordance with the laws and regulations in force, to ensure the continuity of their operations in a legal and organized manner.

Part of Broader Media Regulation Efforts

The move comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to regulate the media sector, as the ministry had previously announced licensing requirements for media outlets of various types, followed by an extension of the deadline until December 31, 2025.

These measures apply to media institutions licensed prior to December 8, 2024, to renew their permits, as well as to newly established entities seeking to complete their legal documentation.
