Hasakah, March 24 (SANA) The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) said early Tuesday its teams evacuated a number of families from al-Mirdian neighborhood in Hasakah city, northeast Syria, after floodwaters from the Khabur River entered homes following renewed overflow late Monday.
According to the Hasakah Media Directorate, water inundated residential areas in al-Mirdian, al-Nashwa and Ghwairan neighborhoods, prompting emergency teams to move residents to safer locations as conditions deteriorated.
SARC volunteers prepared a shelter center at Hassan Khamis School, equipping it with mattresses and blankets to receive affected families. Ambulance teams were also deployed to respond to potential medical emergencies as part of an ongoing humanitarian response supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Separately, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management warned that Syria will continue to be affected by successive low-pressure systems in the coming days, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and hail.
The ministry’s early warning and preparedness department said in a statement Sunday that northeast Hasakah is expected to see intermittent heavy thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday, with more intense weather activity forecast on Thursday and Friday across the province.
Rainfall accumulations are expected to range between 40 and 70 millimeters, the statement said, while strong winds could reach between 65 and 80 kilometers per hour, increasing the risk of material damage and hindering movement, particularly in northeastern areas.
