Damascus, March 20 (SANA) Syria’s Education Minister Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko said on Friday that a new decree raising salaries in education sector reflects the state’s recognition of teachers’ role in building society.
Speaking via the ministry’s Telegram channel, Turko said improving the living conditions of educators is a direct investment in the quality and stability of education, adding that better pay will enhance classroom performance and learning outcomes.
The remarks followed President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s issuance of Decree No. 68 of 2026, which introduces targeted wage increases for employees in several public entities, including the education sector.
Turko said the measure forms part of broader efforts to reform the education system, combining financial support with training and professional development programs to address current challenges.
He added that teachers will remain a priority, stressing that strengthening education begins with supporting educators and improving their working conditions.
The decree also covers employees in the ministries of Health, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Endowments, as well as the Central Bank of Syria and several oversight bodies.
