Economic research center supports policy development and business environment in Syria

Damascus, March 17 (SANA) – The Economic Studies and Research Center at the Syrian Chambers of Commerce Union is positioning itself as a key platform to support economic policymaking, improve the business environment, and contribute to Syria’s recovery efforts.

The center, a non-governmental research institution, focuses on producing applied economic studies, policy analysis, and advisory services aimed at assisting decision-makers and enhancing private sector competitiveness. Its work includes monitoring key economic indicators—such as inflation, investment trends, and fiscal and monetary policies—while aligning with regional and international economic developments.

Officials say the center plays a growing role in supporting economic recovery, particularly by providing practical research and policy recommendations in cooperation with public and private sector stakeholders. It also highlights investment opportunities and promotes projects with added economic value.

Its activities are structured across several integrated areas, including policy research, economic analysis, feasibility studies, consulting and training, and data publishing, enabling it to address both strategic and operational economic challenges.

A major current project explores Syria’s transition toward a market-oriented economy, while recent policy work has focused on strengthening logistics as a driver of export competitiveness and industrial revival.

Beyond research, the center places strong emphasis on capacity building, offering specialized training programs in financial analysis, public sector management, and economic literacy. It has also launched a free program for university students to develop research and policy-writing skills, reflecting a broader focus on building human capital and supporting a knowledge-based economy.

The center has participated in international economic forums, including Syrian-Korean and Syrian-Egyptian business events, as part of efforts to expand cooperation and attract foreign investment.

Established in late 2025, the center aims to serve as a unified economic reference point, helping align policy perspectives and support long-term development and reconstruction in Syria.
