Damascus, March 9 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa participated on Monday in a virtual summit with Middle Eastern leaders, convened by the European Council and the European Commission to address the dangerous military developments in the region.
During the session, the President warned that the current trajectory of conflict poses an existential threat to the Middle East, noting that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure directly endanger global economic stability.
President al-Sharaa emphasized that Syria, positioned at a critical geographical intersection of three active fronts, is facing severe repercussions from these escalations. He reiterated Syria’s unwavering stance in condemning all acts of aggression against Arab sovereignty, specifically denouncing continuous Iranian attempts to destabilize Arab capitals and interfere in the core of Arab national security.
The President stated that the stability of the Syrian state remains the cornerstone of peace in the Levant and the wider region. In line with this, Syria has coordinated its political position with regional allies and preemptively reinforced its defensive forces along the borders to prevent the conflict from entering Syrian territory. These measures also aim to combat trans-border organizations and ensure Syrian soil is not used as a staging ground for external agendas.
Furthermore, President al-Sharaa expressed full support for the serious and decisive steps taken by the governments of Iraq and Lebanon to shield their nations from the ongoing violence. He specifically affirmed Syria’s support for Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in his mission to disarm Hezbollah, viewing the move as essential for regional stability and the preservation of Lebanese sovereign integrity.
