Homs, March 9 (SANA) – Rehabilitation work is accelerating on the main entrance bridge to the city of Rastan in Homs countryside, in a project aimed at restoring a vital transport link serving residents and traffic movement in the area.
The project is being supervised by the General Company for Roads and Bridges and implemented by a local contractor, with support from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
According to engineers overseeing the work, rehabilitation operations began about a week ago and include structural repairs to the bridge pillars and deck, along with preparations for reinforcement and installation of key support components.
The bridge connects the eastern and western parts of Rastan and serves as the city’s primary entrance, making its restoration essential for the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Officials said the project is expected to take about four months to complete at an estimated cost of around $300,000.
The rehabilitation is being carried out alongside maintenance work on the larger Rastan bridge nearby, with the aim of reopening the international highway linking the area and improving transport and mobility for residents.
The entrance bridge, locally known as the Cement Factory Bridge, was damaged during previous years and has remained partially out of service, prompting the current rehabilitation project.
