Syria, UN inquiry team explore media’s role in reconstruction

Damascus, March 5 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Information Hamza al-Mustafa held talks in Damascus on Wednesday with a delegation from the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria on the role of media institutions in supporting the phase of reconstruction and transformation, and in promoting civil peace through professional coverage and accurate, reliable information.

A-l Mustafa said the new Code of Professional Conduct is an important step toward regulating the media sector and preventing incitement.

He noted that Syria has entered a stage of rebuilding based on the principle of citizenship, which requires a rational discourse capable of countering misinformation and closing the door to manipulation.

For its part, the Commission praised the steps taken by the Ministry to institutionalise media work, despite the significant challenges it has overcome over the past year.
