Homs, Mar. 1 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh inspected rehabilitation works on al-Rastan Bridge in northern Homs countryside, which was destroyed by the deposed regime.
Al-Saleh said the project is part of efforts to strengthen the readiness of vital infrastructure across the governorates. The rehabilitation is being carried out in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Transport due to the bridge’s strategic importance as a link between northern and southern Syria and a main route for transporting goods and passengers.

He noted that many roads face challenges affecting transport movement and that infrastructure in al-Rastan city sustained significant damage over the past years.
The minister stressed that restoring the bridge will improve commercial transport and support economic activity, adding that challenges included shortages of technical equipment, weather conditions that delayed work, and maintenance of cranes used in the project.

Al-Saleh said the most difficult stages have been completed, with installation of beams No. 9 and 13 remaining, followed by paving and lighting works, noting that the bridge is expected to be ready for service by May.
Maintenance and rehabilitation works are being carried out by Syria Civil Defense in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the Syria Humanitarian Fund, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Syria.
