Ankara, Feb. 26 (SANA) Syria’s Information Minister Hamza al-Mustafa called for a transition from what he described as “war journalism” to “peace journalism” during a visit to Ankara, according to a statement posted on the Information Ministry’s Telegram channel.
Speaking at an international symposium on media policies in conflict zones, al-Mustafa urged policymakers and media professionals to move beyond coverage that focuses on destruction and amplifies hate speech, and instead adopt reporting that examines the root causes of crises and promotes dialogue and solutions.
al-Mustafa was visiting the Turkish capital at the invitation of Burhaneddin Duran, head of communications at the Turkish presidency, to enhance coordination between Syria and Türkiye in the fields of media and communication. He was accompanied by Deputy Ministers Mohammad Tafran and Abdullah al-Mousa.
In remarks at a session titled “Türkiye’s Role as a Peacekeeper in Conflict Zones from a Media Perspective,” al-Mustafa outlined the ministry’s plans during a pivotal post-liberation phase in Syria. He said media institutions play a key role in addressing divisions left by the deposed regime and in supporting civil peace alongside transitional justice efforts.
Al-Mustafa also expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s diplomatic and humanitarian role and the media environment it has provided for Syrian journalists to defend their fair cause, the statement said.
