Syria appoints chargés d’affaires, diplomats in effort to revive foreign missions

Damascus, Feb.25 (SANA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that, as part of its strategic plan to reactivate Syrian diplomatic missions abroad, it has completed the formation of integrated work teams for several missions worldwide and appointed chargés d’affaires and diplomats in accordance with approved procedures to begin their duties.

In a statement, the Ministry’s Media Department explained that the current phase includes reactivating a number of diplomatic missions, with gradual work continuing to complete the remaining missions based on carefully studied priorities and steps aligned with rebuilding the diplomatic corps on professional and institutional foundations. This approach aims to enhance the readiness of Syrian missions to fulfiltheir role in representing Syria and serving its foreign interests.

The statement added that the Diplomatic Institute has prepared a capacity-building program that includes specialized courses held within the Ministry in 2025, as well as external training programs with international institutes. The Institute is also working on launching an online training platform to develop staff skills and strengthen their readiness as part of a comprehensive institutional development process aimed at enhancing Syria’s diplomatic presence.

The Ministry affirmed that it has adopted an approach that ensures national diversity in forming diplomatic missions, reflecting the various components of Syrian society while maintaining competence as the primary criterion in the selection process.

It also stressed the importance of accuracy in circulating information, noting that the random lists currently being circulated have no basis in truth.
