Tartous, Feb. 23 (SANA) – The gas tanker Gas Zuma arrived at the oil terminal in Banias port on Monday, carrying a shipment of 1,927 metric tons. This vessel marks the fifth tanker to arrive in recent days as part of the state’s intensive efforts to ensure energy stability.
Upon arrival, technical teams from the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) immediately commenced the docking process and began discharging the cargo into the storage tanks of the Banias Gas Department, following the completion of standard technical protocols.
Ahmed Qabahji, Deputy CEO of the Syrian Petroleum Company, stated to SANA that the demand for domestic gas typically peaks during the months of December, January, and February. He clarified that five tankers have been received during the current month of February, with three additional vessels currently en route to the terminal.
Addressing infrastructure challenges, Qabahji noted that the Ministry is moving toward a strategic solution involving the construction of large-scale storage reservoirs in multiple provinces. These facilities will store sufficient quantities to cover the nation’s requirements for several months, ensuring a sovereign buffer against logistical disruptions.
This influx of supplies follows a temporary period of congestion at distribution centers. On February 16, Minister of Energy Mohammad al-Bashir confirmed that the previous shortage was strictly the result of adverse maritime weather that had delayed the docking and unloading of incoming vessels.
