Daraa, Feb. 22 (SANA) — A delegation from international organizations working in Syria visited the Yarmouk Basin area in western Daraa province Sunday to evaluate service gaps and recovery priorities.
The group included representatives from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NFRC), the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, and others. They met local leaders, village council heads, and residents to discuss support for agriculture, health, and basic services.
Key demands centered on repairing surface dams and government irrigation networks, aiding small farmers to sustain crop and vegetable production, improving drinking water access, bolstering health centers with staff and medicines, and rehabilitating schools.
Al-Shajara town council head Mohammed al-Ali told SANA the tour, coordinated with Daraa governorate, focused on recovery needs in services, farming, and health after years of war and stagnation. These visits are vital for aiding communities, he said.
Khawla Ibrahim, head of the Hauran Women’s Association, said the assessment covered civil society challenges, especially for women, children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups. She hopes proposals lead to practical solutions addressing all community concerns.
