Damascus, June 8 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates hosted a workshop on Monday bringing together government institutions, international organizations, victims’ associations and Syrian civil society groups to review a draft national strategy aimed at combating and preventing torture.
The event, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, focused on developing what officials described as a comprehensive national framework for preventing torture and strengthening related institutional mechanisms.
According to the ministry, the workshop sought to establish a participatory process through an open dialogue with victims’ associations and civil society organizations, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft strategy’s provisions and priorities.
Participants discussed ways to enhance the document and ensure that it reflects a broad range of perspectives while supporting national efforts related to prevention, accountability and institutional development.
The workshop forms part of ongoing consultations on the proposed strategy, which officials say is intended to serve as a national roadmap for combating torture and reinforcing preventive measures.
