Damascus, Feb. (SANA) Syria’s National Transitional Justice Commission held a specialized workshop in Damascus, in partnership with the Global Survivors Fund (GSF), to discuss establishing a national registry for victims.
In a statement published on its Telegram channel on Monday, the Commission said the workshop discussed a paper presented by the GSF that was an outcome of a series of direct field consultations carried out by the Fund, in cooperation with the reparations track, with survivors, victims’ families and affected communities. The discussion aimed to identify needs and challenges and to develop a practical proposal based on international experiences and best practices in transitional justice.
Discussions focused on the legal and technical standards required to establish a comprehensive and reliable registry that preserves victims’ dignity, documents the truth of violations, and serves as a key tool for truth-seeking, accountability and reparations.
The National Transitional Justice Commission was established under Presidential Decree No. 20, dated May 17, 2025, with a mandate to uncover the truth regarding serious violations committed by the defunct regime, ensure accountability, provide reparations to victims, and promote guarantees of non-recurrence and national reconciliation.
