Damascus, Feb. 2 (SANA) The Syrian Post Corporation on Monday received a grant from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) comprising three service vehicles and modern logistics equipment aimed at strengthening postal offices across the provinces and enhancing their operational capacity.
Director General Imad al-Din Hamad told SANA correspondent that the grant will be implemented in two phases, with the first batch delivered today, while a second phase in the coming months will include additional postal service vehicles.
Hamad noted that Syria has been provisionally included in a support program known as the “Quality Improvement Fund,” adding that further grants are scheduled for next year under the same scheme to help upgrade postal infrastructure nationwide.
The Universal Postal Union is a United Nations specialized agency and the postal sector’s primary forum for international cooperation, with 192 member states, oversees and develops international mail exchange. Syria’s benefit from the grant follows the reactivation of its membership at the Dubai Conference in 2025, enabling the Syrian Post to rejoin UPU programs and access technical and operational assistance.
The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild the postal sector and modernize services in line with international standards.
