New York, Jan. 31 (SANA) The United Nations welcomed the comprehensive agreement reached between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), urging that priority be given to ensuring stability across the country.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed appreciation for all those who supported the deal, calling on “all parties to work swiftly to ensure its implementation”. He underscored “the peaceful integration of northeastern Syria, the rights of Syrian Kurdish citizens, the safe, dignified and voluntary return of displaced, and coming together in an effort to rebuild the country”
In Turn, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria also welcomed the accord, stressing the need to continue efforts to protect civilians, facilitate the return of displaced populations, and deliver humanitarian assistance to northeastern Syria.
Commission Chair Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro praised the steps taken toward stability, voicing hope for “a sustainable solution, including to the humanitarian crisis, and the steady provision of food, water and electricity.” He further welcomed a presidential decree issued by President Ahmad al-Sharaa on cultural, linguistic and citizenship rights for Syrian Kurds, long denied under the ousted regimes.
Other commission members urged strict adherence to international humanitarian law, protection of civilians and infrastructure, and unhindered humanitarian access. They highlighted the resumption of aid deliveries to al-Hol camp and called for reinforced efforts to secure electricity, water, food and medical supplies across all camps.
On Friday, the Syrian government announced the agreement with the SDF, which includes a ceasefire, a phased integration of military and administrative structures, the deployment of security forces to the centers of Hasakah and Qamishli, and the transfer of all civil institutions, border crossings and state facilities to government control.
