The Justice Ministry affirms the official handover of al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa

Raqqa, Jan. 23 (SANA) The Syrian Ministry of Justice announced that, following the handover of al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa province and the withdrawal of “SDF” militia elements, the prison was formally received by the competent security authorities, as part of extending state authority and restoring institutions to operate in accordance with the law.

The ministry affirmed, in a statement on Friday evening, that the safety and security of prisoners are being ensured, with all necessary measures taken to safeguard their human and legal rights, in line with applicable laws and recognized judicial standards, including the provision of food, water, and medicine.

It also announced the formation of specialized judicial committees tasked with reviewing the legal status of all prisoners and thoroughly examining their files, in preparation for resolving them as swiftly as possible in accordance with legal procedures, thereby ensuring justice and the rule of law.

The ministry stressed its continued follow-up of this case with full responsibility and transparency, aiming to uphold justice, protect rights, and strengthen confidence in judicial institutions.

Earlier, the Syrian Arab Army’s operations command announced that army units had begun transferring SDF organization members from al-Aqtan prison and its surroundings in the Raqqa Governorate to the city of Ain al-Arab, east of Aleppo. This step constitutes the first implementation of the January 18 agreement, according to which the Ministry of the Interior will assume responsibility for managing the prison.
