Syrian Petroleum launches first exploratory gas well in Damascus countryside

Damascus countryside, Dec. 28 (SANA) The Syrian Petroleum Company began drilling its first exploratory gas well in al-Tuwani, Damascus countryside, using a fully Syrian workforce.

CEO Youssef Qablawi said on Sunday that drilling has reached a depth of nearly 4,000 meters and that gas production is expected to start in approximately five months. He noted that the produced gas will be transported to processing units for use in household consumption and electricity generation.

The rig used for the drilling was fully rehabilitated and maintained after being out of service for an extended period, with efforts carried out entirely by national specialized personnel, emphasizing full reliance on Syrian expertise.

Qablawi expressed hope for discovering a substantial gas reserve in the area and added that the company plans to drill four additional exploratory wells during the first quarter of the next year.

These exploratory drilling activities are part of the Syrian Petroleum Company’s plan to increase local natural gas production and enhance reliance on national resources to secure energy needs for vital sectors, particularly for household use and electricity generation.
