Syrian Watchdog recovers 90 billion Syrian pounds linked to former regime corruption

Damascus, Dec. 10 (SANA) The Central Agency for Control and Inspection announced that it has recovered nearly 90 billion Syrian pounds and resolved 1,198 cases since Syria’s liberation. This comes as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat entrenched corruption, strengthen transparency, and improve performance.

According to the Agency’s statistics, a copy of which was obtained by SANA, it has collected 89.7 billion pounds out of 338.9 billion pounds that were sought. The Agency referred 186 cases to the judiciary, completed 1,198 others, and sent 1,203 individuals to court. Additionally, 127 were referred to disciplinary councils, while 1,744 faced administrative penalties.

November investigations also revealed losses of approximately $7 million caused by a corrupt procurement contract in the Ministry of Public Works and Housing during the former regime.
