Syrian–French Talks to support rural projects and enhance agricultural development

Damascus, Dec. 2 (SANA) Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr met Tuesday with a delegation from the French Agency for International Technical Expertise “Expertise France,” headed by Abdallah Shahir, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening cooperation, supporting rural projects, and developing Syrian agriculture.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry building in Damascus, Minister Badr emphasized the importance of directing support toward programs that achieve sustainability and integration of agricultural work. He stressed the need to enhance technical support for research laboratories and to develop areas of animal health and plant production.

The minister called for cooperation in smart agriculture technologies, expansion of modern irrigation and regulation of water use, as well as training technical staff, exchanging expertise and supporting rural women’s products by developing value chains up to the marketing stage.

For its part, the French delegation reviewed projects implemented by the agency in northern Syria and the possibility of expanding its scope to include other provinces, highlighting the importance of defining priorities the ministry wishes to support, whether at the level of public institutions or rural communities.

The two sides also discussed potential cooperation in producing veterinary vaccines, artificial insemination, improving the productivity of strategic crops and raising the efficiency of nurseries for fruit and forest trees.

The French Agency for International Technical Expertise “Expertise France” was established in Paris in 2014. It is a public institution of an industrial and commercial nature, operating under the supervision of the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Industry, and is dedicated to implementing projects in line with balanced sustainable development goals in partner countries.
