Lebanese President: Syrian-Lebanese ties are progressing in the right direction

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed that Syrian-Lebanese relations are progressing in the right direction.

“Our relations with the new Syria are developing in the right direction — a relationship between two sovereign and equal states.” In a message to the Lebanese people marking the 82nd anniversary of Lebanon’s independence, Aoun stated.

President Aoun criticised the state of denial among some skeptics in Lebanon regarding regional developments, stressing that such behaviour contradicts reality and the Lebanese will, as well as regional and international circumstances.

Aoun reiterated his stance that Lebanon must act in line with the interests of its people, not those of any party, faction, or sect. He emphasised: “Times have changed, circumstances have shifted, and Lebanon is weary of statelessness and mini-state projects.”

Aoun’s remarks come at a time when Syrian-Lebanese relations are entering a new phase of cooperation and rebuilding, marked by high-level official exchanges aimed at strengthening fraternal ties based on mutual respect for sovereignty and enhancing joint collaboration across vital sectors and shared issues of concern.
