Emergency Ministry conducts first practical trial using drone for landmine detection

Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management on Sunday tested an advanced German drone to detect landmines in Drousha area of Damascus countryside.

Deputy Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management ,Hossam Hallak, explained in a statement to SANA that the practical trial carried out by the ministry using modern technology in field surveys of unexploded mines left by the deposed regime represents a qualitative step in advancing national response capabilities and enhancing civilians’ protection.

Hallak pointed out that this trial is the first of its kind in Syria and the Middle East, and has proven successful in accurately identifying contaminated objects, with the ability to provide data on their weight, depth, and size.

He revealed that the real practical trial will begin soon in one of the contaminated fields in Hassia City, of Homs countryside, benefiting from German expertise and technologies in this field.

Fadi Saleh, Director of the National Mine Action Centre, stated in a similar remark that the practical trial demonstrated its ability to survey about 10,000 square meters in only 35 minutes.

The drone, equipped with thermal imaging and advanced scanning technology, can detect mines buried underground. Data is captured through specialized cameras and high-precision sensors for analysis.

The test is part of ongoing efforts by the government to use advanced technology to enhance safety and humanitarian operations in areas affected by conflict.
