UK welcomes UN decision to remove President al-Sharaa’s name from sanctions list

UK welcomes UN decision to remove President al-Sharaa’s name from sanctions list

The United Kingdom welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2799, which removed President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Khattab from the international sanctions list.

“We will continue to support the Syrian government in fulfilling its commitments to build a more stable, free, and prosperous future for all Syrians.” the British Mission to the United Nations stated in a post on X,

The UN Security Council approved the draft resolution yesterday, which was submitted by the United States. Syria welcomed the move, affirming it as a sign of growing confidence in the new Syria, its people, and its sincere and constructive approach in engaging with the Security Council and the international community.
