More than 400000 Syrians have returned home from Turkey since the fall of former regime

Ankara, SANA – Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that more than 400,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their country since the fall of the former regime on December 8, 2024.

“The pace of voluntary return of Syrian refugees has accelerated after December 8, 2024, with a total of 474,018 Syrian refugees having returned to their homeland,” Kaya said in a post on the X platform on Sunday.

He added: “The number of Syrians who have voluntarily returned to their country since 2016 has reached 1,213,620 people,” noting that his country continues to implement return procedures with utmost care and in coordination with the Directorate of Migration Management.

Last June, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi confirmed that the agency’s estimates indicated that approximately 600,000 people had returned from neighboring countries, while more than 1.4 million internally displaced persons had returned.

This brings the number of returnees to their homes to more than two million, with many more still wishing to return.
