Tartous, Feb. 11 (SANA) Authorities in Syria’s Tartous province have launched a new aid campaign to support residents of camps in Idlib province affected by recent flooding, officials said Tuesday.
The campaign, titled “Tartous Al-Khair 2,” is being organized by the Tartous regional administration with participation from local residents and civil and relief organizations. It aims to provide humanitarian assistance to families whose tents were damaged or destroyed by heavy rains and flash floods.
Mahmoud al-Shami, an official with the Tartous administration, said the initiative seeks to coordinate the efforts of social and relief teams under a unified plan to ensure aid is distributed efficiently.
He said the campaign includes the collection of heating supplies, clothing, food and financial donations. Organizers have opened several collection centers across the province following what officials described as a strong public response.
Several donors expressed solidarity with camp residents. A volunteer with a local women’s team said the campaign was launched on an emergency basis after many families lost their shelters in the flooding, adding that the public response led organizers to extend the initiative for three additional days.
Heavy rainfall in northern and western Syria last Saturday triggered flash floods that swept through areas near seasonal waterways in the Kherbet al-Jouz camps west of Idlib province, submerging a number of tents. Authorities evacuated affected families and opened temporary shelters.
