US congressman renews call to waive export controls on Syria

Washington, SANA- U.S. Republican congressman, Joe Wilson, renewed on Wednesday call for the implementation of President Donald Trump’s executive order to lift export controls imposed on Syria.

“President Trump’s executive order calling on the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Bureau of Industry and Security to waive export controls on Syria is crystal clear, and I again encourage my friends to act quickly.” Wilson posted on X (formerly twitter).

Wilson earlier had called for the lifting of U.S. export controls on Syria, saying: “The president’s vision is clear and should not be delayed any further.”

U.S. Congress passed a law in 2005 imposing restrictions on the export of U.S. goods to Syria, except food and medicine. In May of this year, President Donald Trump announced the lifting of sanctions on Syria, a move aimed at giving it “a chance of prosperity after years of war and international isolation.”
