Al-Shaibani: Strategic partnerships agreed upon with Qatar will make rapid difference in Syria’s recovery

Doha, SANA- Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani met Sunday with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Minister of State, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi in the Qatari capital, Doha.

“Our meeting with our brothers in Qatar was deep and extensive, in which we touched on fundamental and strategic issues, and we explained our roadmap for rebuilding our country, empowering the Syrian people with their civil rights, and building a government that represents all components of the Syrian people,” Minister al-Shaibani said in statements following the meeting.

Al-Shaibani added: “The brotherly country of Qatar has played a key role in supporting the Syrian people, whether during the previous ordeal or today in the reconstruction phase. Qatar is a strategic partner, and we are keen to consolidate joint relations with it in a way that would serve the interests of both countries.”

Al-Shaibani continued “We have conveyed our fears to the brothers in Qatar and the challenges at this stage, and we have tackled the economic sanctions which have become against the Syrian people and which hinder the rapid recovery of the Syrian economy. We renew our demand to the United States of America to lift these sanctions in order to speed up the recovery process and start building a new Syria.”

Al-Shaibani stressed that the new Syria will enjoy good relations with the region, in which peace and joint cooperation will prevail, away from the form of relations of the defunct regime with the region, saying “We seek to restore our relations on the Arab, regional and international levels.”

The Foreign Minister stated that the current phase entails sincerity and joint cooperation with all states of the region to build a new Syria in which justice, freedom and equality prevail and citizens feel the sense of belonging.

“We thank the brotherly country of Qatar for the humanitarian aid it has provided and continues to provide. The strategic partnerships agreed upon today will make a rapid difference in Syria’s recovery, especially in basic services, and we confirm that there will be political partnerships that would achieve security and peace in the region,” al-Shaibani said.
