The United Nations condemned Israel’s early-morning attack on Friday in the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, which resulted in civilian casualties. The UN described the attack as a serious violation of Syria’s sovereignty.
Najat Rochdi, Deputy UN Special Envoy for Syria, said in a statement from Geneva, that the incursion, which resulted in several civilian deaths and injuries, further destabilizes an already fragile regional situation. She noted that the attack triggered displacement, with families fleeing to nearby areas in search of safety.
Rochdi reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, urging an immediate halt to such actions and adherence to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The Syrian government condemned the incident as a “war crime,” warning that repeated Israeli attacks threaten regional security and aim to impose new realities by force.
