ANKARA, Oct. 20 (SANA) Türkiye has appointed Sergen Yalcin as head coach of its national football team on a four-year contract, replacing Italian coach Vincenzo Montella, the Turkish Football Federation said.
The 53-year-old takes charge after Montella left the post on Oct. 9 following four consecutive defeats in the UEFA Nations League. Türkiye will look to improve its results under its new coach.
Yalcin has coached several Turkish clubs, most notably Besiktas, whom he led to the league and cup double in the 2020-21 season.
He played for Türkiye from 1994 to 2003, earning 37 international caps and appearing at the 1996 and 2000 European Championships.
