Rome, Sep. 01(SANA) Syria’s table tennis participation at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games ended without a medal after Hind Zaza was eliminated from the women’s singles round of 16 with a 4-1 loss to Egypt’s Hana Goda.
Zaza started competitively, with Goda taking the opening game 11-9 before the Syrian player responded by winning the second by the same score.
Goda regained the lead by taking the third game 11-7 and went on to secure the match.
Zaza had reached the round of 16 after defeating Algeria’s Jade Morris 4-1 in the round of 32.
Syria’s other singles players were eliminated in the round of 32. Obaida Zaza lost 4-0 to Türkiye’s Görkem Öcal, while Abdul Razzaq Al-Hallaq was beaten 4-0 by Egypt’s Youssef Ahmed. Lin Ougli lost 4-0 to Italy’s Gaia Monfardini.
In mixed doubles, Obaida and Hind Zaza were eliminated after a 3-0 loss to the Italian pair of Oiboudi and Monfardini.
In the team competitions, Syria’s men exited in the opening round following a 3-0 defeat to Greece, while the women’s team was eliminated at the same stage after a 3-0 loss to Türkiye.
The results brought Syria’s table tennis campaign at Taranto 2026 to a close without a medal.
