Vancouver, July 8 (SANA) Switzerland advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Colombia 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday, following a scoreless draw after 120 minutes at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.
Neither team was able to find the breakthrough in regulation or extra time, forcing the Round of 16 match to penalties, where Switzerland converted four of its spot kicks to secure the final berth in the last eight.
Switzerland will face defending champions Argentina in the quarterfinals after the South Americans defeated Egypt 3-2 in their Round of 16 clash.
