Dallas, July 4 (SANA) Egypt advanced to the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 after beating Australia 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Emam Ashour gave Egypt the lead in the 13th minute, but defender Mohamed Hany scored an own goal in the 55th minute to level the match and force extra time and, ultimately, a penalty shootout.
Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, made a number of substitutions to score the lead goal and decide the result, but Australia’s defenses prevented that, so the match turned into extra time, and the result of the draw remained the same, so the match moved to penalty kicks, which the Egyptian national team deservedly won in its favor.
Egypt will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde in the next round.
