England comes from behind to beat DR Congo, reach World Cup last 16

Atlanta, July 2 (SANA) England rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 on Wednesday and advance to the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

DR Congo took the lead in the seventh minute through Brian Sibenja after a counterattack and held the advantage into the second half, with goalkeeper Lionel Mbasi producing a series of saves to frustrate England.

Harry Kane equalized with a header in the 75th minute before scoring the winner 11 minutes later with a powerful finish into the top corner, completing England’s comeback.

England will face Mexico in the Round of 16 after the Mexicans defeated Ecuador 2-0 to book their place in the knockout stage.
